Who is Badwater Bill?

BILL LATTER: (William B. Latter; born 14 July 1956) regularly runs and races long distances, having done numerous marathons and ultra-marathon distance runs. The numbers on a clock do not drive him; for Bill running is a metaphor of life – one he wishes to experience to the fullest. He has been on the long recovery road from a back injury that threatens to end his distance running and walking entirely and forever. For now he walks. He walks long, long distances. Each summer since 2010, he attempts to run and walk from Badwater Basin, Death Valley to the Mt. Whitney Portals - a distance of 135 miles. Sometimes he tries to summit Mt. Whitney and return to the start, a distance of nearly 300 miles. Bill finally had corrective surgery for his back in February 2013. It was a front and back double fusion of L4-5 and S1. His recovery has been fantastic, with effectively no pain remaining. He is now on a path to run again. It will take a while, but progress is positive. Stay tuned - the adventure continues!
